Accounting Manager

This role will be responsible for applying generally accepted principles of accounting to record and analyze financial information and prepare financial reports. This position requires the ability to analyze results and provide feedback, problem-solving through analytical reasoning, reviewing processes and offering improvement suggestions, and communication with other departments and external parties. This person will review and prepare other periodic monthly and annual financial statements, management and financial reports, analyze and reconcile general ledgers, monitor and manage the cash, record sales, and acquisitions and prepare annual tax packages for the tax preparers.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and/or review monthly financial statements, along with annual financial statements, ensuring all balances are properly stated and supporting schedules are accurate and complete, including: 
    • Journal entries and trial balance 
    • Balance sheet account reconciliations   
    • Footnote disclosures 
  • Communicate with department heads monthly to review budget to actual performance and assist in educating them regularly to understand how their respective departments are performing from a cost perspective 
  • Work closely with Development, Property Management, Asset Management, Investments, and other departments to prepare and provide financial data for actual results and full-year forecasts 
  • Prepare and/or review quarterly and annual financial statements including footnote disclosures 
  • Review and reconcile allocated overhead and payroll related to shared resources 
  • Assist with cash management  
  • Support the finance team in obtaining necessary financial data for quarterly valuations of investments 
  • Prepare support schedules to assist with audits, tax return preparation/filing, lender reporting, and other compliance reports, as required
  • Review G/L coding and descriptions on invoices and expense reports 
  • Other duties as assigned 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA preferred 
  • 4+ years of experience of progressive accounting experience; public accounting and fair value accounting experience a plus 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel  
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision while understanding the necessity of clear communication and coordination and adaptability to change 
  • Self-motivated and looking to improve processes where necessary
